The Raft - Robert Trumball

The Raft

The Raft written by Robert Trumbull is the basis to the NEW film Ghosts in the Pacific.
The book was reviewed in 2009 by Utah Preppers in 2009. The Review can be read below.
The plane sunk from below their feet into the depths of the deep blue abyss. Three naval airmen now find themselves floating alone in endless waves and ocean expanse. This is a gripping true story of their grueling adventure adrift at sea for 34 days in a rubber raft not much bigger than a bathtub.
Preparedness lessons learned from this book include:
  • No matter how bad it may get, it will never be as bad as these guys had it.
  • Resourcefulness – From next to nothing to absolutely nothing, they made use of their resources of tools, supplies, knowledge and experience.
  • Interesting study on the effects of dehydration and starvation.
  • Sometimes miracles only happen once we’ve arrived at the limits of Hades.
I read this book recently as a bedtime story for my 9 and 6 year old boys. It’s a quick, easy read that mixes adventure with preparedness lessons. The Raft had enough suspense, adventure, guns, sharks, storms and peril to keep my kids’ attention and wanting for “just one more chapter” each night. My wife was even hooked in for the last half of the book and kept joining us nightly until the end.
Don’t expect to come away from this book with a list of, “I’m going to do this, and this and this” as practical examples from this book. Instead you’ll come away with a stronger conviction that no matter how bad it gets, if God wants me to survive, I’ll stay alive and thrive. This is a story of courage and the indomitable human spirit that we should all acquire so that we can thrive through any challenge that the future might hold.
This is one of those “can’t put it down” adventure books that pulls you in from the start and won’t let you go until you reach The End. To read the first few chapters or pages online so that you can get hooked, go to Google Books ». And of course it’s available via Amazon: The Raft

For a taster of the book pop over to Google Books where you can excerpts from Chapter 1  CLICK HERE

NEWS FLASH - NO SHOES-TOMS AND END7

We interrupt this journal to give you all an IMPORTANT message from Tom. He needs our SUPPORT.

Tuesday 16th April is NO SHOES DAY.
Tom Tweeted

Help Tom and TOMS  Shoes by being barefooted for the day like Tom intends to do.

For just one day leave those shoes at home and show you care like Tom  does.  Make people aware of  the health hazzards of not having the luxury of shoes something we all take for granted.

TOMS  already send one pair of their shoes for every pair we buy to poverty stricken children who do not have such luxuries instead are affected by HOOKWORM . Something that causes long term physical effects that include stunted growth, decreased cognitive development, anemia and croninc fatigue.
Studies show that children affected by hookworm are 20% less likely to go to school and earn 40% less in adult life.

So whats the solution to provide prevention and treatment to include education, medication and improved hygiene and sanitation and protection from soil.

WHY SHOES ?  You may ask.

The IMA WORLD HEALTH give de-worming medication along with shoes to children to help them stay healthy with the combination of prevention and treatment.

No shoes will arouse
curiosity ==> conversation ==> action ==> change.

For more information check out NO SHOE website HERE

Tom is already supporting END 7 as ambassador to stamp out 7 deadly diseases by 2020 along with fellow actors and actresses all shocked by what they have seen with hookworm being included so this shows us just how much he cares for the children and adults alike and helping them to live in safe enviroment .

LETS SHOW TOM OUR SUPPORT AND THAT WE CARE AS MUCH AS HE DOES.

The Raft

As there are no updates today as the  Ghosts team are most likely to be taking a day off before filming starts next week. Here are some facts about the story behind the film.

I have been doing some research with my friend Maz,  to find out the awesome story of these 3 brave men who survived for 34 days without food water and supplies.

If they had they been at sea for one more day then they would almost certainly perished at sea when a Typhoon hit the area on what would have been day 35. Luck was on their side and they were washed up onto the shores of Cook Island.

It was 16th January 1942 the crew set out in their TBD Devastator Torpedo Bomber on a no radio contact patrol to track Japanese submarines straying out of radio contact with USS Enterprise and fuel supplies running low they have no alternative but to ditch the plane .

No doubt  we will see Tom take to the skies again once again like he did in Adrenaline Junkie
I wonder if he will take a photo with him of his GF tucked up his sleeve ? You big Softy Tom thats why we love you.

The Dinghy that was 3ft wide by 6ft long hardly big enough to support 3 men comfortably can be seen in the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensecola FL USA.

THE RAFT  (Click Link for Virtual Tour)

To log their days at sea Harold managed to find a pencil and etched a tally mark on the side of the Dinghy

Tom's next Project -Ghosts of the Pacific

It has just been announced by Tom Felton by a RT on twitter via Ghosts of the Pacific he has been casted along with Garret-dillahunt and Jake Abel for the Role of Bombadier Tony Pastula.

The film is to be directed by Brian Falk  for The American Film Company  .

The film according to Ghosts of the Pacific Twitter will be filmed at the Fox Studios Baja in Mexico where Titanic was filmed and according to Garrat Dillahunts Blog the filming will take 5 weeks to film.
Here is the News break from Hitfix  and Garrat Dillahunts Blog:
Garret Dillahunt, Tom Felton and Jake Abel are about to go to war.
The three actors are set to star in “Ghosts of the Pacific,” a WWII drama produced by The American Film Company.
“Pacific” tells the the true story of three Navy flyers — pilot Harold Dixon (Dillahunt), bombardier Tony Pastula (Felton), and radioman Gene Aldrich (Abel) – who survived a harrowing ordeal in the South Pacific in 1942. After ditching their damaged scouting plane, the three strangers find themselves adrift on a 4×8-foot life raft with no food, water, or supplies.
Producer and American Film Co. president Brian Falk (Robert Redford’s “The Conspirator”) will be making his directorial debut.
Falk is also co-writing with Mark David Keegan. The film is being produced by Falk and Mark Moran, with Kurt Graver co-producing. The American Film Company’s Joe Ricketts will exec produce.
And more info about the plot, from The American Film Company:
It’s January 16, 1942. Veteran Navy pilot Harold Dixon, and his young crew — radioman Gene Aldrich, and bombardier Tony Pastula — take off from the deck of aircraft carrier USS Enterprise to search for Japanese submarines in the glistening waters of the South Pacific. The three men are virtual strangers, assigned to spend an afternoon together in a single-engine torpedo bomber. They should be back on the ship in time for dinner.
But instead of dinner, evening instead finds the men adrift on a dark ocean in a tiny rubber raft, forced to ditch their plane after they somehow lost their carrier…then their remaining fuel…then the setting sun. Most significantly, the plane itself sank to the ocean floor, carrying with it nearly all of their emergency supplies.
No first aid kit, no signaling device, no compass, no food, no water.
Thus begins GHOSTS OF THE PACIFIC, the incredible account of a 34-day odyssey that has become a Navy legend. Dixon, Aldrich, and Pastula cast adrift on the high seas, assaulted by sharks and storms, burning in the relentless sun, starving to death
NO START DATE HAS BEEN MENTIONED BUT IT CAN BE ASSUMED IT WILL BE SOON AS TOM HAS CANCELLED CONVENTIONS IN VANCOUVER AND CALGARY  WHICH HE WAS SCHEDULED TO ATTEND AT THE END OF THE MONTH.

WE WOULD LIKE TO WISH TOM MUCH SUCCESS !
